How We Reworked 5 Homes to Suit How People Live
by: Pete Bird
Over the past few months, we’ve worked on a number of projects where the focus hasn’t just been on replacing a kitchen or bathroom. It’s been about making the whole space work better.
What’s been interesting is how often the same theme has been cropping up. People aren’t just updating a room anymore. They’re stepping back and asking whether their home actually suits how they live day to day.
If this isn’t something you’ve considered before, here are some amazing projects we’ve worked on and how we’ve managed to transform entire living spaces.
Opening Up the Main Living Space
In one project, we removed internal walls and brought part of the garage into the layout to create a more open plan space.
Rather than the kitchen being separate from the rest of the home, it now sits at the centre of a connected living area. It’s a much more practical layout and works far better for everyday use.
Rethinking the Kitchen Layout Completely
Another project involved a full structural reconfiguration of the space. Walls were removed, steelwork was installed, and the entire layout was redesigned to introduce a large island kitchen.
The result wasn’t just a new kitchen, but a completely different way of using the space.
Getting the Layout Right from the Start
On any project of this nature, the focus has to be on planning everything properly from the beginning.
On one particular project we worked on, the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed and the layout was carefully reworked so the kitchen and utility space flowed together. Because everything was designed and installed as one process, the end result worked exactly as intended, and the homeowner got exactly what they were looking for.
Making Better Use of a Bathroom
Many projects that open up spaces tend to be around the downstairs area, such as kitchens, garages or conservatories. But it doesn’t have to stop there. Making your bathroom suit how you live could also be transformational.
In one bathroom project, the layout was completely rethought so everything sat in the right place. Stud walls were moved and plumbing adjusted to suit the new design, delivering a space that feels more practical and better organised day to day.
Turning an Unused Space into Something Useful
We’ve also seen more people looking at areas of the home that aren’t being fully utilised.
In one case, a conservatory was upgraded with a new warm roof and structural changes to create a proper living space. What was once a room that wasn’t used much is now fully connected to the home and comfortable all year round.

How the Space Works
Across all of these projects, there’s a common theme: it’s not just about how things look. It’s about how the space works.
That could mean just adding in the right furniture in the right spot, it could mean removing walls, or sometimes it can mean rethinking the layout entirely.
But in every case, the difference comes from planning it properly from the start.
When the design, supply and installation are all considered as one, everything comes together in the right order and the finished space just works.

Thinking About Your Own Home
If you’re considering a new kitchen or bathroom, it’s worth taking a step back before you focus on finishes and features.
Think about how your space works now, and how you’d like it to work instead. Because often, it’s the layout that makes the biggest difference.
