Kitchen Trends 2026: Why Warmer, More Natural Designs Are Taking Over
by: Pete Bird
For quite some time, the all-white kitchen has been the go to choice for many people. It’s a clean, bright and safe option. It’s been the standard for years, and it’s not hard to understand why.
But we’re starting to see a new shift away from that look. While white kitchens will probably always have their place, a full white-on-white design can sometimes feel a bit too clinical. It can lack warmth and character, especially in a space that’s meant to be the heart of the home.
With more people moving towards a kitchen that feels more lived in, we’re seeing a new trend in designs. Does your kitchen still work for you? If not, this might give you a few ideas.

Warmer, Softer Colour Palettes
One of the biggest trends we’ve been seeing this year is a move towards warmer, more natural tones.
Instead of bright white, people are now choosing colours like taupe, mushroom, soft greys and warmer off-whites. These shades still keep the space feeling light, but they add a softer, more relaxed feel.
It’s a subtle change, but it makes a big difference to how the kitchen feels day to day.
Natural Materials
Alongside this shift in colour, natural materials are becoming more popular again.
Oak kitchens in particular are making a strong comeback, but in a slightly different way to before. Rather than heavy or traditional styles, we’re seeing lighter oak finishes, softer tones and cleaner, more modern designs.
It’s about keeping the natural texture of the wood, but using it in a way that feels fresh and simple.
Mixing Modern with Natural
Another thing that’s coming through is the balance between modern design and natural elements.
This could mean a clean, handleless kitchen paired with wood accents, or soft neutral units combined with stone or textured finishes. It’s less about one single look and more about layering materials so the space feels more considered. If you look at some of our kitchen projects, you can see how beautiful and distinctive a mix of styles can be.
This approach helps to avoid that flat, one-dimensional feel that some kitchens can have, making the room feel less like a functional space and more like a lived in home.
A More Lived In Feel
Kitchen design overall is moving away from looking perfect and untouched, and towards something that feels more lived in.
That doesn’t mean messy or cluttered. It just means creating a space that feels comfortable, welcoming and easy to spend time in.
You spend a lot of your time in the kitchen, and not just for cooking. It’s where people gather, chat and work, so making it feel more relaxed is becoming a more popular choice.
Your Kitchen Design
While it’s great to know what the trends are and what other people are opting for in their homes, the most important thing is always how your kitchen works for you. Every family uses their kitchen in a different way, so we always focus on your needs first.
We work with customers who love a clean, modern look, and others who prefer something warmer and more natural. There’s no right or wrong. It’s about finding the balance that suits your home and how you use the space.
