Why Kitchen and Bathroom Projects Can Be Bigger (and Better) Than They First Seem
by: Pete Bird
At Pete Bird Kitchens & Bathrooms, we don’t just sell kitchens and bathrooms, we transform homes. And that means that what starts out as a straightforward job on paper can sometimes turn into something much more exciting once we get to work. That’s where the magic really happens.
Kitchens and bathrooms are rarely “just” kitchens and bathrooms. They’re central to how a home feels and functions. So when we’re asked to create a new space, we’re often rethinking layouts, knocking through walls, or installing steels to open up living areas. It’s about making a home work better for the people who live in it, not just swapping out units or tiles.

One recent project involved removing a huge wall and putting in a monster steel section. We’re talking bolts, friction plates, piers – the full works. Four of us grafted all day to get it done, and by the end you could already see the space coming to life. It was heavy going, but we loved every minute of it, because the transformation was massive.
That’s why we always allow breathing space in our schedules. We’d never want to rush through a project just to tick a box. If a job turns out to be bigger than we expected, it usually means we’ve uncovered an opportunity to make the space even better, or that a bit of extra craftsmanship is needed to get it absolutely spot on.
For us, that’s the best part. The hidden steels, the clever rerouting of plumbing and the structural changes are all what make the difference between a kitchen or bathroom that looks good on day one, and one that still feels amazing years later.
So when we say every project is unique, we really mean it. And that’s why every single one gets the time, attention and pride it deserves. Because we’re not here to rush jobs. We’re here to create homes that people truly love living in.
